GodMode9 can be installed as a bootloader instead of boot9strap or fastboot3ds, but unless you exactly know what you're doing, you don't want it as it makes updating Luma3DS more difficult and removes some troubleshooting options. On this page, you will find instructions for going back to boot9strap.

Instructions

What you need

Section I - Prep Work

  1. Power off your console
  2. Insert the SD card into your computer
  3. Copy boot.firm, boot.3dsx, and config from the Luma3DS .zip to the root of your SD card
  4. Create a folder named boot9strap on the root of your SD card
  5. Copy boot9strap.firm and boot9strap.firm.sha from the boot9strap .zip to the /boot9strap/ folder on your SD card
  6. Copy SafeB9SInstaller.firm from the SafeB9SInstaller .zip to the /gm9/payloads/ folder on your SD card
  7. Reinsert your SD card into your console

Section II - Installing boot9strap

  1. Press and hold (R)+(Dpad-Left), and while holding (R)+(Dpad-Left), power on your console. This will launch GodMode9.
    • If you see prompts such as selecting a language, creating an essential files backup or setting the RTC time and date, accept and/or complete these prompts until see the [root] menu on the top screen with the console's drives listed.
  2. Press (Home), then navigate to "Payloads..." and finally launch SafeB9SInstaller.firm.
    • If your (Home) button is broken or otherwise does not open the action menu, try pressing the (Power) button instead.
  3. When prompted, input the key combo given on the top screen to install boot9strap
    • If the top screen is blank, power off your device and re-do Section II
  4. Once it is complete, press (A) to reboot your device
