3DS:Custom Keyboard

From Hacks Guide Wiki
Warning icon Uninstalling CFW while a custom keyboard is installed will brick your system. Make sure you restore the original keyboard before you uninstall CFW! If your 3DS is bricked because of a custom keyboard, follow this guide to repair it.

Installing a custom keyboard has many advantages:

  • Typing Japanese characters on a non-Japanese system
  • Using the full-width font that's used on the Wii
  • Using characters from the DS keyboard that were removed on the 3DS (e.g. the button icons and PictoChat faces)
  • Using other normally-inaccessible characters in the 3DS system font

How to Install

  1. Download the latest version of cooolgamer's custom keyboard from this page (choose light mode or dark mode).
  2. Extract the archive and copy the gm9 folder to the root of your SD card.
    • Make sure you don't already have a custom keyboard installed.
  3. With the SD card in your 3DS, hold the START button while booting to open GodMode9.
  4. Press the HOME button, choose Scripts, and run the Custom Keyboard script.
  5. Wait for it to load, read the messages before accepting them, and press A to reboot your 3DS.
  6. Open FBI and install the CIA file at sd:/gm9/customkyb/Keyboard_Custom.cia.

Restoring the Original Keyboard

To uninstall the custom keyboard and restore the original one, open FBI and install sd:/gm9/customkyb/Keyboard_Original.cia.
