3DS:Fixing corrupted games

Is your game crashing or experiencing some kind of unintended effect? If so, this page may be able to help you fix your game.

Before starting, you should backup your save with Checkpoint in case something unintentional happens. We are not responsible for any data loss that may occur.

Error d900458X

X being any character, this happens when there is some sort of corruption with the game or its save.

1. The first thing you should try is uninstalling then reinstalling any Update data for the game
2. If this does not work, try uninstalling and reinstalling any DLCs for the game

Cartridge

It is not advisable to blow into the cartridge slot or on the cartridge directly with your breath. The moisture in your breath will cause rust to form, damaging the pins.

Before anything, try cleaning the contacts of your cartridge with a microfiber cloth and 99% Isopropyl alcohol. Do not use water.

If available, also try using compressed air in the cartridge slot to blow out any debris. This ensures the pins are not covered in any dirt or grime.

1. Install the game to your SD card with GodMode9
2. If the install succeeds, launch the game
   • If the game launches, then restore your save using Checkpoint
   • If the game crashes after restoring your save, your save is corrupted
     • You can try deleting the save from your cartridge, as it may make your cartridge work again, if the cartridge still does not work, then delete the save from the SD card version
3. If the installed version did not work or the install failed, your cartridge is likely corrupted
   • You can try the Cartridge fix section below to repair corruption
   • If that worked, you should install the game with GodMode9 as the cartridge may be unstable

Digital

If the game crashes right when you enter it, try importing the seed with FBI:

1. Navigate to Titles -> (game name)
2. Select Import Seed

If that doesn't help, remove the save and fix potential game corruption by re-installing the game:

1. Back-up your save using Checkpoint
2. Uninstall the game
3. Re-install the game

If the game no longer crashes, restore the save with Checkpoint. If it starts crashing again, you have to redo the process and start a new save.

Cartridge fix

This has no guarantee of working, and may make issues significantly worse. Only use this if you are absolutely certain the issue is with your cartridge.

Download the GodMode9 Cartridge Fixer fork by skawo and place gm9_CartRefresh_1.2.firm in luma/payloads/

1. Insert the cartridge into your console, then power on your console while holding START
2. Select gm9_CartRefresh_1.2.firm from the list
3. When GodMode9 loads, select [C:] GAMECART
4. Select the file that ends in .3ds (not .trim.3ds)
5. Select NCSD image options.... then Fix cartridge corruption
   • You will know that it is working if the Current Hash value is changing

If this does not fix your cartridge, then your cartridge is most likely unfixable and will need to be replaced.
