January

Hacking group fail0verflow posts a video of a scroller running on the Nintendo Switch revealing ShofEL2, a bootrom exploit that can run unsigned code. Since this exploit exists in the bootrom (a hardware chip), all Switches up to this point are vulnerable.

ShofEL2 is revealed to the public

June

June 15th: The target release date for the Atmosphére Custom Firmware. This deadline was missed hard and becomes a joke within the Switch hacking community.
