This method applies to devices that were purchased from certain sellers on Amazon or AliExpress, usually "Ancient Moon Game Store". These devices come with a specially modified version of Luma3DS to hide all configuration and features. During attempts to set up homebrew, this causes problems, usually when attempting to run nimdsphax. This guide explains how to replace it with a standard boot9strap install. If you were sent this guide in the Nintendo Homebrew Discord server with proper intent, do not follow any previous CFW installation method you were following (Skaterhax, SSLoth-Browser, etc.) and only remain on this guide.
What You Need
The latest release of Luma3DS (the Luma3DS .zip
file)
The latest release of boot9strap (direct download)
config.bin (direct download)
Original 3DS/2DS consoles: This native.firm (direct download)
NEW 3DS/2DS consoles: This native.firm (direct download)
On Windows, don't use WinRAR to extract files. It has a high chance of corrupting files, leading to confusing errors.
Instructions
Section I - Prep Work
Power off your device
Insert your SD card into your computer
Copy boot.firm
and boot.3dsx
from the Luma3DS .zip
to the root of your SD card
The root of the SD card refers to the initial directory on your SD card where you can see the Nintendo 3DS folder, but are not inside of it
Create a folder named boot9strap
on the root of your SD card
Copy boot9strap.firm
and boot9strap.firm.sha
from the boot9strap .zip
to the /boot9strap/
folder on your SD card
Create a folder named luma
on the root of your SD card, if it does not already exist
If this folder already exists and there is a file named config.bin
inside it, delete this file
Copy native.firm
to the /luma/
folder on your SD card
Copy the config.bin
to the /luma/
folder on your SD card
Reinsert your SD card into your device
Section II - Installing boot9strap
Power on your device
If the exploit was successful, you will have booted into SafeB9SInstaller, then immediately have booted into the Luma3DS configuration menu
Luma3DS configuration menu are settings for the Luma3DS custom firmware. Many of these settings may be useful for customization or debugging
For the purpose of this guide, these settings will be left on default settings
If your device shuts down when you try to power it on, ensure that you have copied boot.firm
from the Luma3DS .zip
to the root of your SD card
If your device booted to the HOME menu without showing SafeB9SInstaller, proceed to Installing boot9strap (MSET9) .
Press (Start) to save and reboot
If you get an error, just continue to the next section
At this point, your console will boot to Luma3DS by default.
Luma3DS does not look any different from the normal HOME Menu. If your console has booted into the HOME Menu, it is running custom firmware.
On the next page, you will install useful homebrew applications to complete your setup.
Section III - Removing files
This section is mandatory and should not be skipped, otherwise, the console may crash or throw an error the next time it turns on.
Power off your device
Insert your SD card into your computer
Delete native.firm
from the /luma/
folder on your SD card
