What you Need

  • The latest release of MSET9 (the Release .zip file)
  • The latest release of MSET9-Wii (the .dol file)
  • a Wii with The Homebrew Channel installed

Instructions

Section I - Prep Work

  1. Power off your console
  2. Insert your SD card into your computer
  3. Copy everything from the Release .zip file to the root of your SD card
  4. Create a folder named apps on your SD card (if it does not exist already)
  5. Create a folder named MSET9-Wii within the /apps/ folder on your SD card
  6. Copy the MSET9-Wii .dol file to the /apps/MSET9-Wii/ folder on your SD card, and rename it to boot.dol
  7. Safely eject your SD card from your computer
  8. Insert your SD card into your console, and power it on

Section II - Creating Extra Data

  1. Power on your console with your SD card inserted
  2. Open Mii Maker
  3. Wait for your console to reach the "Welcome to Mii Maker" screen, then exit Mii maker
    1. You may see a "Creating extra data..." prompt, which indicates that the necessary data has been created
    2. If you only reach the normal Mii maker screen, exit Mii Maker and continue to the next step
  4. Launch System Settings
  5. Navigate to Data Management -> Nintendo 3DS -> Extra Data
  6. Ensure that Mii Maker is in the list of extra data
  7. Eject your SD card from your console
  8. Insert your SD card into your Wii
  9. On your Wii, launch the Homebrew Channel, and launch MSET9-Wii from the Homebrew Channel.
    • If you are using the grid view, the application will have no icon.
  10. Select the option that corresponds to your console's model and system version
  11. If you are asked to Inject MSET9 now?, press B to cancel.
    • If you receive any errors in the sanity checks, follow the provided instructions, or consult the troubleshooting page.
  12. Press HOME twice to exit the app
  13. Eject your SD card from your Wii

Section III - MSET9

OOjs UI icon information-warning.svg Following these steps precisely is crucial to getting MSET9 to trigger. If you believe you made an error, restart this section.
  1. On the HOME menu, hover over System Settings (do not launch it!)
  2. Power off your console, then power it back on
  3. Press A to launch System Settings
  4. Navigate to Data Management -> Nintendo 3DS -> Extra Data
  5. Do not press any buttons or touch the screen.
  6. Eject your SD card into your 3DS
  7. Insert your SD card into your Wii
  8. Launch MSET9-Wii from the Homebrew Channel
  9. Select the option that corresponds to your console's model and system version
  10. When prompted to Inject MSET9 now?, press A to confirm.
  11. You should see [OK] MSET9 successfully injected, have fun!
  12. Eject your SD card from your Wii, and insert it into your console
  13. If the exploit was successful, your console will have booted into the SafeB9SInstaller.
    • If you get stuck on a loading screen for longer than 10 seconds, skip to Section V

Section IV - Installing boot9strap

  1. When prompted, input the key combo given on the top screen to install boot9strap
  2. Once it is complete, press (A) to reboot your device
  3. Your device should have rebooted into the Luma3DS configuration menu
    • Luma3DS configuration menu are settings for the Luma3DS custom firmware. Many of these settings may be useful for customization or debugging
    • For the purpose of this guide, these settings will be left on default settings
    • If your device shuts down when you try to power it on, ensure that you have copied boot.firm from the Luma3DS .zip to the root of your SD card
  4. Press (Start) to save and reboot
OOjs UI icon information-progressive.svg At this point, your console will boot to Luma3DS by default.
  • Luma3DS does not look any different from the normal HOME Menu. If your console has booted into the HOME Menu, it is running custom firmware.
  • On the next page, you will install useful homebrew applications to complete your setup.

Section V - Removing MSET9

  1. Insert your SD card back into your Wii
  2. Press A to continue
  3. You should see [OK] MSET9 has been removed!
  4. When prompted to Try again?, press B to cancel.
  5. Press Home to return to the Homebrew Channel.
