==Required Reading==
If you are experiencing the "System Settings loading infinitely after reinserting the SD card" error or Mii Maker doesn't appear in the Extra Data menu when trying to install MSET9 using the [[3dsguide:installing-boot9strap-(mset9-cli)#section-ii---mset9|MSET9 CLI]] or [[3dsguide:installing-boot9strap-(mset9-play-store)#section-ii---mset9|MSET9 Play Store]] guides, this page will help you resolve that issue by either swapping to a spare SD card or backing up and then formatting your original SD card.

All of your original games and saves will be kept intact if you follow the steps properly.
This will perform a fresh install with either a spare SD card, or your original SD card which has been backed up and formatted, to avoid issues with your current install causing MSET9 to not work properly.

Before starting this guide, please ensure the following two things:
# You have chosen the correct model type (New vs. Old) and system version in the MSET9 setup.
#* New models have four shoulder buttons ({{B|L|ZL|ZR|R}}) and the C-Stick directly above the Y button - Old models have two shoulder buttons ({{B|L|R}}) and no C-Stick.
# You injected MSET9 in Section II Step 10, not any earlier.
#* If System Settings is stuck because you injected too early (such as in Section II Step 5), just follow the instructions for removing MSET9 and then restart from the beginning of Section II. You do not have to swap out or reformat your SD card in this case.

This page is for resolving the "System Settings loading infinitely after reinserting the SD card" error when trying to install MSET9. This page hashes out the troubleshooting steps located here.

This will perform a fresh install with either a spare SD card, or your original SD card which has been backed up and formatted, to avoid issues with your current install causing MSET9 to not work properly.

Instructions

Assuming your 3DS is stuck at the extra data screen with a spinning circle:

  1. Force power off your console by holding the power button down for 15 seconds.
  2. Eject the SD from your console and insert into your PC.
  3. Load mset9.bat (if windows) or mset9.py (if linux) or mset.command (if mac).
  4. Choose model then press 3 to remove MSET9 and then press enter to close the script.
  5. Choose option below based on if you have a spare SD card or not.

  1. Eject the original SD card from your PC
  2. PUT YOUR ORIGINAL SD CARD AWAY
  3. Insert your spare SD card into your PC
  4. Format the spare SD card as FAT32
  5. Insert the formatted, blank SD card into your console
  6. Return to Section I Step 1 of the MSET9 Guide.
  7. After Luma3DS installs and your console boots to the homescreen, power it off and switch to your original SD card for Finalizing.

  1. Backup your SD card to a folder to your PC (especially the Nintendo 3DS and DCIM folders)
  2. Double check that you properly backed up your data
  3. Do not skip the previous step
  4. Format the SD card as FAT32
  5. Insert the formatted, blank SD card into your console
  6. Return to Section I Step 1 of the MSET9 Guide.
  7. After Luma3DS installs and your console boots to the homescreen, power off your console
  8. Eject the SD from your console and insert into your PC
  9. Format the SD card as FAT32 again
  10. Restore your backed up folders to the SD card and continue on to Restoring / Updating CFW to ensure you have Luma on your SD card, and then continue onto Finalizing.
