Required Reading
This article may be outdated due to a new Nintendo 3DS system firmware release. It was written for system version 11.15.0-47, but 11.17.0-50 is the latest. universal-otherapp is patched on latest system version, rendering this method unusable on latest. |
freakyhax (combined with universal-otherapp) is compatible with versions 1.0.0 through 11.15.0 on EUR, USA, or JPN region devices.
What You Need
- A EUR/USA/JPN copy of Freakyforms Deluxe (eShop or cartridge)
- The latest release of freakyhax
- The latest release of SafeB9SInstaller
- The latest release of boot9strap (

Instructions
Section I - Prep Work
- Power off your device
- Insert your SD card into your computer
- Copy all files and folders inside the
/build/<your console and region>/exploit/
folder from the freakyhax.zip
to the root of your SD card- The root of the SD card refers to the initial directory on your SD card where you can see the Nintendo 3DS folder, but are not inside of it
- Copy
otherapp.bin
to the root of your SD card - Copy
boot.firm
andboot.3dsx
from the Luma3DS.zip
to the root of your SD card - Create a folder named
boot9strap
on the root of your SD card - Copy
boot9strap.firm
andboot9strap.firm.sha
from the boot9strap.zip
to the/boot9strap/
folder on your SD card - Copy
SafeB9SInstaller.bin
from the SafeB9SInstaller.zip
to the root of your SD card - Reinsert your SD card into your device
- Power on your device
Section II - Launching SafeB9SInstaller
- Reinsert your SD card into your device
- Power on your device
- Launch Freakyforms Deluxe
- In the game menu, select
Play -> Camera -> Load a QR code
- Select the QR code
- If the exploit was successful, you will have booted into SafeB9SInstaller
Section III - Installing boot9strap
- Wait for all checks to complete
- When prompted, input the key combo given on the top screen to install boot9strap
- Once it has completed, press (A) to reboot your device
- Your device should have rebooted into the Luma3DS configuration menu
- Luma3DS configuration menu are settings for the Luma3DS custom firmware. Many of these settings may be useful for customization or debugging
- For the purpose of this guide, these settings will be left on default settings
- If you get a black screen, follow this troubleshooting guide
- Press (Start) to save and reboot
- If you get an error, just continue the next page
At this point, your console will boot to Luma3DS by default.
