NTR is a generally outdated plugin loader. However, it is still neccesary to load older plugins in the .plg format. The only way to load NTR on modern CFW setups is using BootNTRSelector.

Installing BootNTRSelector
Using Universal Updater
What you need
* Universal Updater

Installation
# Search for
BootNTRSelector
in Universal Updater
#* Get
BootNTRSelector.cia
if you are on a New 3DS or if you are on an old 3DS and want to use plugins with non-extended memory games
#* Get
BootNTRSelector_Mode3.cia
only if you are on old 3DS and want to use plugins with extennded memory games
# Search for
Luma3DS [Nanquitas]
in Universal Updater, and download the
boot.firm
file
# Reboot your system
# In the Luma configuration screen, select any options you need, then press START
#* Hint: If you don't know what the options are, you don't need any

Manually
What you need
* BootNTRSelector
** Get
BootNTRSelector.cia
if you are on a New 3DS or if you are on an old 3DS and want to use plugins with non-extended memory games
** Get
BootNTRSelector_Mode3.cia
only if you are on old 3DS and want to use plugins with extennded memory games
** Note that you can also get BootNTRSelector by searching for it in Universal Updater
* The 3GX loader fork of Luma3DS
** Note that the 3GX loader fork of Luma3DS is also available on Universal Updater under the name
Luma3DS [Nanquitas]

Installation
* Copy the BootNTRSelector .cia file to your SD card
** You may skip this if you use Universal Updater to install BootNTRSelector
* Copy the
boot.firm
from the 3GX loader fork of Luma to the root of the SD card, replacing the
boot.firm
already there
** You may skip this if you use Universal Updater to install Luma3DS [Nanquitas]
* Insert the SD card into your system and power it on
* On the Luma Configuration screen, enable any options that you need, then press Start
** Hint: If you don't know what the options are, you don't need them
* Install the BootNTRSelector .cia file using FBI

Using NTR
Plugin location
NTR will look for plugins in the
plugin
folder on the root of your SD card. Each plugin must be inside a folder named with a game's Title ID. Inside the folder, put your .plg file

For example, the path may look like
plugin
->
00040000001B5000
->
plugin.plg

Launching NTR
# Open the BootNTRSelector app on your home menu
# Select 3.6 on the version selection screen
#* Even if the plugin you are using says that it requires another version, try using 3.6 instead. Only use another version if 3.6 will not work
# Launch a game that you have a plugin for. You should see a green flash upon loading the game - that means that the plugin is active
# Look at the information on the plugin's specific page for usage instructions - usage will differ per plugin

Usage notes
* You cannot play more than one game with NTR without rebooting the system - when you are done playing a game, power off the system
* You must launch NTR every time you wish to use a plugin
* Certain applets, such as the New 3DS's internet browser, may crash if you try to open them while NTR is active

#*Your console's notification LED should turn green, and it's top screen should now be streamed to your computer
#*Low framerates are normal with this method, they can't be improved too much either, making this not very viable for actually streaming

Using Line In to Receive Audio
What You Need
*A 3.5mm to 3.5mm audio cable
* An audio in (line in or microphone in) port on your computer
** Some computers have a single "headphone" port that can be used for both audio output and input. To use one of these, you will need a Y splitter

How to use
#Connect your 3DS to your computer's audio input port with a 3.5mm to 3.5mm audio cable
#Pipe the audio from your audio input port into the software you intend to use
#*The exact steps will depend on the software you're using
#*If you are recording or streaming your game using OBS, add a new audio capture source
#*If you are streaming your game via a service such as Discord, you will need to use software such as Voicemeeter to mix your microphone and 3DS audio inputs together
#**If you do not wish to speak while streaming, simply point the app at the 3DS's audio device
#*To simply listen to the audio, you can listen to the audio input device in Windows
This page will show you how to stream your 3DS console's screens to your computer over WiFi. For both methods, keep the following things in mind;

*Your console and your computer need to be on the same network.
*Streaming audio over WiFi currently isn't possible, you will need to use an AUX cable and a device with Line In to receive audio.
*If you have a poor connection, you may not get the best results.
*While you shouldn't stream from an Old 3DS console due to the very low frames you will get, the section is still here as a 'proof of concept' thing that you can mess around with. It is not intended for practical use.
Main Page
A nice Main Page should be made. It should include a simple explanation of what homebrew is, then links to the main guides, the "Things to do" pages, and maybe troubleshooting.

A search box could be put here too.
Console introductions
These pages should be like an all-around intro to things about hacking a console. Links to guides on getting hacks set up, links to the "things to do", maybe troubleshooting for when things go wrong...

I'm not sure how necessary these pages are though, if there isn't enough stuff that can't also go on the "Things to do" pages. ihaveahax (talk) 02:52, 18 June 2022 (UTC)
Translations
The pages being moved from 3ds.hacks.guide or wiiu.hacks.guide might have translations that need to be brought over.

Also pages on how to translate stuff on this wiki need to be made too.

Technical
*Create lots of redirect pages. Someone will probably search things like "Pokemon x" or "Fix black screen" so we should create those pages that point to the right place. This needs some automation too.
**Special:BulkPageCreate, ihaveamac/mediawiki-extensions-BulkPageCreate
This page will cover how to edit the 3DS HOME Menu. By following this guide, you will be able to:

*Replace text and words on your HOME Menu
*Customize the positions of things like the wireless indicator bar and the time/date display
*Edit your Sleep Mode screen completely
*Change the color of applets and the words that appear when you open them
#*If an error occurs, just press
Okay
and continue
#*Colors here are not in hexadecimal format, they are in RGB format
#*Refer to the below image for coordinates;
#:
#*If you want to remove an element, you can edit the position values of the corresponding element to a very high number
#*This does not work for the connection status bar. If you want to remove it, open hud.LZ in HxD and change the following offsets to 00:
#*
0x000097E2

#*
0x00009962

#*The above are 1 size offsets, so only edit the pair your cursor jumps to when entering the offset value
#*When you are done editing the values, check the box of each one you edited and close Cheat Engine
Pages

I think we should have pages for individual games with lists of mods, save editors, guides, and maybe other things.

*Create a game template page, so anyone who wants to make a page for a specific game knows where to start.
**Hacks Guide Wiki:Game pages/Template (maybe even make it a preload-able template?)
* Make it more obvious that a revision other than the main one is being viewed. Preferably with a MediaWiki hook but JS will probably do.

#*If an error occurs, just press
Okay
and continue
#*Colors here are not in hexadecimal format, they are in RGB format
#*Refer to the below image for coordinates;

#*If an error occurs, just press
Okay
and continue
#*You may now edit the color and position values of elements as you please
#*Colors here are not in hexadecimal format, they are in RGB format
#*Refer to the below image for coordinates;

*Create a game template page, so anyone who wants to make a page for a specific game knows where to start.
**Hacks Guide Wiki:Game pages/Template (maybe even make it a preload-able template?)
* Make it more obvious that a revision other than the main one is being viewed. Preferably with a MediaWiki hook but JS will probably do.
