NTR is a generally outdated plugin loader. However, it is still necessary to load older plugins in the
.plg
format. The only way to load NTR on modern CFW setups is using BootNTRSelector.

What you need
* Universal-Updater

Installation
# Search for
BootNTRSelector
in Universal Updater
# Get
BootNTRSelector.cia

#* If you are on an old 3DS and want to use plugins with extended memory mode games (such as seventh generation Pokémon games and Super Smash Bros.), also get
BootNTRSelector_Mode3.cia
as you will need to use it for such games
# Search for
Luma3DS
in Universal Updater, and download the
boot.firm
file
# Reboot your system
# In the Luma configuration screen, select any options you need, then press START
#* Hint: If you don't know what the options are, you don't need any
What you need
* The latest release of BootNTRSelector (BootNTRSelector.cia)
** If you are on an old 3DS and want to use plugins with extended memory mode games (such as seventh generation Pokémon games and Super Smash Bros.), also get
BootNTRSelector_Mode3.cia
as you will need to use it for such games
* The latest release of Luma3DS
** Luma3DS v13.0 or higher is required to use BootNTR Selector (or 3GX loader for older versions)

Installation
* Copy the BootNTRSelector .cia file(s) to your SD card
* Copy
boot.firm
from the Luma3DS
.zip
to the root of the SD card, replacing the
boot.firm
already there
* Insert the SD card into your system and power it on
* On the Luma Configuration screen, enable any options that you need, then press Start
** Hint: If you don't know what the options are, you don't need them
* Install the BootNTRSelector
.cia
file using FBI

</tabber>

Using NTR plugins
Plugin location
If you're using the default configuration, NTR will look for plugins in the
plugin
folder on the root of your SD card. Each plugin must be inside a folder named with a game's Title ID. Inside the folder, place your .plg file.
* You can get the game's title ID from here (cartridges), here (digital games), or from the
FBI -> Titles
menu. For example, Taiko no Tatsujin: Dokodon! Mystery Adventure's title ID is
0004000000190E00
, so if you wanted to use a plugin for that game, you'd create a folder named
0004000000190E00

* The creator of the plugin may have already created a folder with the correct name for you, in which case you can just copy the title ID folder from the plugin's zip/rar/7z archive to the
plugin
folder
* If you want the plugin to run for all games (for example, for an FPS overlay), create a folder called
game
inside the
plugin
folder and place your plugin inside

An example directory for a plugin affecting one game would be
plugin
->
0004000000190E00
->
plugin.plg
.

An example directory for a plugin affecting all games would be
plugin
->
game
->
plugin.plg
.

Launching NTR
# Open the BootNTRSelector app on your home menu
# Select 3.6 on the version selection screen
#* Even if the plugin you are using says that it requires another version, try using 3.6 instead. Only use another version if 3.6 will not work
# Launch a game that you have a plugin for. You should see a green flash upon loading the game - that means that the plugin is active
# Look at the information on the plugin's webpage/README for usage instructions - usage will differ for each plugin

Usage notes
* You cannot play more than one game with NTR without rebooting the system. When you are done playing a game, power off the system
* You must launch NTR every time you wish to use a plugin
* Certain applets, such as the New 3DS's internet browser, may crash if you try to open them while NTR is active

Botman: /* Instructions */

Custom badges are PNG images that can be attached to folders or placed on the HOME Menu grid, to give it a bit more personality. Badges may also be made into shortcuts for system applications, some of which don't normally have a home icon such as Nintendo Network ID Settings. Custom badges are built on the same framework as the official badges that could be earned through Nintendo Badge Arcade.

Creating Custom badges
Badge requirements
: Badges
* Custom badges must be
.png
(s) whose dimensions are divisible by 64 pixels
* Theme Plaza has a large collection of such badge images
* The custom badge's name is set to whatever the filename of the badge is
* Images larger than 64x64 will be split into separate badges (eg. 128x128 will be split into four badges)
** Badges split in this way will share the same name or app shortcut
** The largest a single image can be is 384 x 768 pixels (6 x 12 badges, for a maximum for 72 badges in a file). If a PNG is larger than this, Anemone3DS will not attempt to install it and instead skip it.
* The most badges you can install at a time is 1,000. If you attempt to install more than 1,000 badges, some badges won't be installed.
: Set icons
* Set icons must be
.png
(s) with a dimension of 48x48 pixels

Sets
Sets allow badges to be organized into separate groups. To create a set, first make a new folder within
sd:/badges/
, with the folder name being the name of your set. Badges placed in a set subfolder will be installed as part of that set. Sets may also be given a set icon by placing a 48x48 pixel PNG into the set's folder with the name
_seticon.png
; if no
_seticon.png
exists, the set will be given a default icon of the Homebrew Launcher logo. Badges not placed in a set folder will instead be installed as part of a default set called "Other Badges" with a set icon of the Anemone3DS logo.

Shortcuts
Custom badges can be made into shortcuts to launch system applications; a list of compatible titles can be found here. To create a badge shortcut, rename the badge so the TIDLow of the system app is between the first and second period of the file name, like so:
BadgeName.<TIDLow>.png
. For example, a file named
settings.00021000.png
would create a badge named settings that launches USA System Settings (mset). Badges made into shortcuts will display the banner of the application they launch, rather than being a pin; applications without a banner will display a default banner instead.

Instructions
Troubleshooting
Ext Data Locked
This error means the 3DS Home Menu is currently attempting to read from the Badge Ext Data, and Anemone3DS can't open it. If you run into this error, press the home button to return to the home menu, wait for a few seconds, and then returning to Anemone3DS (without having fully closed it), and try installing badges again.

#* Host name/IP address: The IP address displayed on the top screen of the 3DS (e.g. 192.168.0.67)
#** This is a local IP address, so you don't need to censor it if you need assistance
FAQ
Why not microSD Management?
While New 3DS models can do a similar method through microSD Management, said method has a number of downsides:
* microSD Management does not exist on Old 3DS models.
* microSD Management uses a protocol (SMBv1) that is only supported by Windows.
** Additionally, SMBv1 is heavily outdated, now a major security risk, and disabled by default on modern installations of Windows.
* microSD Management can cause random file corruption in use.

Instructions
Section I - Prep Work
In this section, you will download known clean versions of the DS titles and prepare them for installation.

# Using a torrent client such as qBitTorrent, Deluge, or Transmission, download the four following
.cia
files from their magnet links
#* TWL Version Data:
magnet:?xt=urn:btih:4A106681407FEDE5DE95CC8BDA635432481F6B5D

#* DS Internet:
magnet:?xt=urn:btih:2B9DF8496922F2546DFB0B01220068CE53C19D3D

#* DS Download Play:
magnet:?xt=urn:btih:B581D3C5D98F5E621FDDFC1CE5704BB45BF05A8C

# Depending on whether your 3DS is a new model or an old, download one of these two
.cia
s from its magnet link
#* New 3DS TWL_FIRM:
magnet:?xt=urn:btih:EAB8558C97B18B1F329A2BFCC3C899B84C082A27

#* Old 3DS TWL_FIRM:
magnet:?xt=urn:btih:17511EADB6E6F3FF22D04F90644E37BD2D96CA43

#* If you are not sure of your console's model, check whether it has two shoulder buttons or four - a new model has four buttons (), and an old model has two L
# Move any files currently inside the folder
sd:/cias
onto your PC, then copy the five downloaded
.cia
s into that folder
# Insert your SD into your 3DS

Section II - Manual TWLFix
In this section, you will delete the DS titles and then install the known clean versions.
The DS mode firmware used for backwards compatibility in a 3DS console can be made unusuable by several different things. This page lists the full usual set of troubleshooting steps to fix this issue.

The troubleshooting below should always be started at the first section. The troubleshooting will direct you to other sections as necessary.

CFW Check
First, we will make sure your console has working CFW. This will help as it allows access to several useful homebrew tools, including GodMode9.

# Power on your console while holding the SELECT button
#* If your console boots to the Luma3DS configuration menu, press START to save, then continue
#* If your console doesn't boot to the Luma3DS configuration menu, do the same without the SD card inserted
#** If your console does boot to the Luma3DS configuration menu, your SD card wasn't inserted correctly, re-insert it and try again
#** If your console doesn't boot to the Luma3DS configuration menu, you likely do not have Luma installed, and should install CFW before continuing as all but one of the fixes on this page require it
#*** To make sure of this, hold for seven seconds while the console is powered off, then power off again, hold HOME, and then press POWER - if the notification LED lit up a color or the fastboot3DS menu appears, then you have working CFW but something is interfering with Luma. Join the Nintendo Homebrew Discord for more advanced help
#*** If you do not have CFW and do not want to install it, you can still follow TWLFix if you can obtain homebrew access through a method on the guide

Troubleshooting
Section I - Prep Work
Section II - Bizarre Edge Cases
# Power off your console and insert the SD card into your computer
# Open the file
sd:/luma/config.ini
in a text editor
#* This variable should be set to 0; if it is not, set it to 0 now
# Exit the text editor, remove the SD card, and reinsert the SD card into your console
# Power on your console
# Open FBI, then go into Remote Install -> Scan QR code
# Check whether the camera works, then press X and similarly check the other camera
#* If either camera causes an error or does not produce any output, your camera is likely bricked - this is known to cause DS mode issues. Disconnect the camera's cable ribbon and/or replace the camera entirely to fix this
# Power off the console, then power on again while holding SELECT to access the Luma3DS configuration menu
# If any of the following settings are enabled, disable them:
#*
Enable loading external FIRMs and modules

#*
Enable game patching

#*
Enable custom upscaling filters for DSi

#*
Allow Left+Right / Up+Down combos for DSi

# Either press START or select
Save and exit
, then attempt to open something that uses DS mode
#* If this works, look for and delete faulty patches in
sd:/luma/sysmodules
,
sd:/luma/titles
, and
sd:/luma/twl_upscaling_filter.bin
before turning any of the above settings back on
# Select
3ds_hw_test

# Press any button to start the test
# The test will take up to 45 minutes - when it's done, press any button to turn it off
# The file
HWTEST.LOG
will have been created on the SD root - open this file in a text editor
#* GodMode9 will work for this
# Scroll down to the end and look at the number of errors
#* If this number is more than 0, your console's RAM is dying and you need to replace the motherboard

If the above number of errors is zero, you have now exhausted all of the conventional fixes. Go to the Nintendo Homebrew Discord, ask for help, and mention that you've tried this page already.
If you are experiencing the "System Settings loading infinitely after reinserting the SD card" error or Mii Maker doesn't appear in the Extra Data menu when trying to install MSET9 using the MSET9 CLI or MSET9 Play Store guides, this page will help you resolve that issue by either swapping to a spare SD card or backing up and then formatting your original SD card.

All of your original games and saves will be kept intact if you follow the steps properly.

Before starting this guide, please ensure the following two things:
# You have chosen the correct model type (New vs. Old) and system version in the MSET9 setup.
#* New models have four shoulder buttons () and the C-Stick directly above the Y button - Old models have two shoulder buttons (L) and no C-Stick.
# You injected MSET9 in Section II Step 10, not any earlier.
#* If System Settings is stuck because you injected too early (such as in Section II Step 5), just follow the instructions for removing MSET9 and then restart from the beginning of Section II. You do not have to swap out or reformat your SD card in this case.

Instructions
Follow these steps first to remove MSET9:
#* If the console is infinitely loading on the extra data screen, forcibly power it off by holding down the power button for 15 seconds
# Insert your SD card into your PC
==If you got a real mess and want to clean like the pros, then you’ve got to see this!
Hi, Billy Mays here with Zorbeez, the most absorbent material I’ve ever used. It has the
strength and the muscle to pick up and hold over 20 ounces of liquid.
Look at this! Zorbeez attracts liquid like a magnet! It doesn’t matter if it’s coffee, soda,
even red wine!
Watch how this powerful vacuum action pulls and cleans the stain from out of the carpet
– just that quick.
The secret is in the X27 fiber technology, making Zorbeez over 27 times more absorbent
than cotton! Forget towels that just drip. And, unlike sponges that smell, Zorbeez is odorfree and leaves a path of clean.
Now, you could clean and dry and never leave anything behind! You’ll be amazed as just
how much they absorb – and they’re machine washable.
Dry your entire car, even your dog! Use any cleaner for streak-free windows.
An average family uses up to two rolls of paper towels every week. That’s cash in the
trash. Save money and even help save the environment.
You get two jumbo Zorbeez plus three extra large for only $14.99. But call right now and
I’ll send you another five Zorbeez absolutely free! That’s 10 Zorbeez for only $14.99!
And as a special bonus, we’ll also include our Micromen Microfiber Duster free. It’s
great for blinds, plants, glass, and more – and attracts just like a magnet!
That’s a $60-value all for only $14.99. And here’s the best part: We’ll send you a set of
Zorbeez free whenever you need them for life. Just pay shipping and processing. But you
If you're getting assistance with installing custom firmware, you will probably be linked to a specific subpage based on your scenario and the additional hardware that you have (if applicable). Otherwise, if you know what you're doing, feel free to follow these guides if you're curious.

Required Reading
There is a bug in Checkpoint where save backups do not appear in Checkpoint. This issue can be resolved by these checks:
Troubleshooting
Make sure that the saves are in the correct place.
All Checkpoint backups should be located in \3ds\Checkpoint\saves\{some hex code then the name of the app}/{The name of the backup. This does not matter as long as it uses legal characters}. Make a backup of save of the app you are trying to restore even if the path name is correct. (You won't use this, it just creates the correct folder diagram for the backups), then move the file(s) that contains the save into the created folder and replace the new backup that I stated we won't be using.

Make sure that the save isn't corrupted.
If you look at the save in notepad, it will look corrupted even if it's not. If the above step didn't work then there is a good chance your backup is corrupted.
